Intermediate First Aid, CPR & AED is designed for workplace and community learners who need more in-depth first aid training than Basic First Aid. The course builds practical judgment, teamwork, and response skills for situations involving cardiac emergencies, breathing emergencies, injuries, and sudden medical events.

Course Description

A comprehensive first aid and CPR training course for learners who need broader emergency response skills. This program prepares participants to manage a wide range of medical and trauma emergencies with confidence through theory, practical skill development, and scenario-based practice.

This course provides additional training in a wider range of emergency scenarios. Participants learn how to assess scenes, respond to medical and trauma emergencies, provide CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants, and support casualties until further medical help arrives. The course emphasizes practical decision-making, teamwork, and hands-on performance in both individual and group rescuer situation.

    • Signs, risks, and first aid responses for asthma, anaphylaxis, cardiac emergencies, stroke, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and opioid overdose.

    • Wound care, bleeding control, burn care, and when advanced care is required.

  • Skill Objectives

    • Perform a full scene assessment, use PPE, and complete an ABC check.

    • Perform high-quality CPR and use an AED safely for adults, children, and infants.

    • Manage choking for adults, children, and infants using back blows and thrusts as appropriate.

    • Provide first aid for medical emergencies, including assisting with inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, prescribed heart medications, and naloxone.

    • Provide care for soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, head and neck injuries, and suspected spinal injuries.

    • Assist a person in a wheelchair safely by communicating clearly and providing appropriate first aid.

    • Monitor a casualty’s condition, transfer care to EMS, and continue care until help arrives.

Course Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, students receive a CPR with AED certificate 

Recertification Duration

Intermediate First Aid recertification is available in an 8.5-hour format, including 4 hours of theory and 4.5 hours of practical training and evaluation. This option is suitable for learners who already hold a valid certification and need renewal
