Basic First Aid and CPR Level C with AED will give participants the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to recognize and respond to medical emergencies. Learners will gain confidence in checking scenes for safety, given immediate care and supporting individuals until professional medical help arrives.

Course Description

A one‑day, entry‑level first aid course that teaches essential skills to recognize emergencies, respond safely, provide CPR and use an AED until emergency medical services arrive. This program is designed for both workplace and community settings and meets Ontario workplace first aid expectations when delivered in compliance with CSA Z1210 and WSIB requirements.

This format includes a full 8.5-hour (including breaks and evaluation) classroom session led by a certified instructor. Participants receive direct instruction, hands-on practice, real-time feedback, and assessment in a classroom setting.

Learners complete approximately 4 hours of self-guided online theory through structured modules, readings, quizzes, and activities, followed by about 4.5 hours of in-person practical training and assessment.

    • Circulation and cardiac emergencies, including heart attack, cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, and shock.

    • Breathing emergencies, including difficulty breathing, asthma, and allergic reactions.

    • CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants.

    • Basic wound care, burn care, and recognition of serious trauma involving the face, chest, head, and spine.

    • Explain the role, responsibilities, and duty of care of a workplace first aider.

    • Describe how to keep a scene safe, identify hazards, prevent infection, and protect themselves and others.

    • Explain when and how to activate EMS, and how to communicate clearly during emergencies.

    • Understand basic anatomy and essential first aid terminology needed for safe decision‑making.

    • Recognize and respond to major medical emergencies including breathing and airway problems, severe bleeding, shock, cardiac emergencies and AED use, choking, asthma, allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies, and seizures.

    • Describe the basics of wound care and burn care, including when to seek further medical help.

  • Skill Objectives

    • Perform a full scene assessment and primary casualty check (responsiveness, breathing, and circulation).

    • Perform CPR for adults, children, and infants, and use an AED safely and confidently.

    • Place a breathing but unresponsive individuals in the recovery position.

    • Manage choking for conscious and unconscious individuals of all ages.

    • Control bleeding and provide basic wound care, including cleaning, dressing, and monitoring for infection.

    • Provide first aid for burns, including cooling, protecting, and preventing further injury.

    • Monitor a casualty’s condition and communicate clearly when handing over to EMS.

    • Assisting a person in a wheelchair during an emergency.

Course Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, students receive a Basic First Aid and CPR Level C with AED certificate, which will be valid for three (3) years or as required by applicable regulations.
